Mumbai Architechture - Gateway of India.
The Gateway of India is in Mumbai, formerly known as Bombay. As its name suggests, it is a Gateway that tourists must visit. It is an arch like building that looks like a hollow house. It is made of basalt and concrete. Due to the evolution of land and air transportation, local and foreign visitors to Mumbai do not come into Mumbai via the sea route and use the Gateway. Instead, this Gateway has fallen into oblivion and stands only as a symbol of its historical past.
The architecture style is derived from the 16th century Gujarat’s design. This Indo-Saracenic style was heavily influenced by the colonial British architects in India during the 1800s. This architectural style borrowed elements from India’s Mughal style and Britain’s Gothic style. Construction started in 1911 and was completed in 1924.
